Pre-control Measures for Hazardous Points in Electrical Equipment Patrol Inspection

Edwiin
Field: Power switch
China

Thunderstorm Day

Hazard Points

  • Lightning rod drop and back - strike injuring people
  • Arrester explosion injuring people
  • Outdoor terminal box and gas relay getting rainwater

 Control Measures

  • Wear qualified insulating boots and stay at least 5m away from the lightning rod.
  • Wear safety helmets properly and do not approach arresters to check action values.
  • Keep terminal boxes and mechanism box doors tightly closed, and ensure the gas - proof rain shields are in good condition.
  • Prohibit holding umbrellas when patrolling high - voltage equipment in thunderstorm weather.

Foggy Day

Hazard Points

  • Sudden equipment pollution flashover (fog flashover) and grounding injuring people
  • Reduced air insulation level, prone to discharge
  • Low visibility leading to straying into non - safety areas

 Control Measures

  • Should patrol in insulating boots.
  • When arranging measures or patrolling equipment outdoors, refrain from raising hands.
  • Be cautious and careful during patrol.

Icy and Snowy Day

Hazard Points

  • Snow melting and dampness in terminal boxes and mechanism boxes, DC grounding or protection malfunction
  • Excessively low temperature in battery rooms, unable to work normally
  • Slippery patrol paths, prone to falling and straying into snow - covered pits
  • Snow on equipment falling and injuring people
  • Slipping and falling when going up and down outdoor stairs

Control Measures

  • Check that box doors are closed well. If damp, immediately use a hot air blower for drying treatment.
  • Keep doors and windows tightly closed, and the temperature should not be lower than the specified value.
  • Wear insulated rubber shoes, walk slowly, and clear snow in a timely manner.
  • Wear cotton safety helmets.
  • Clear snow in a timely manner and hold handrails to walk slowly.

Night

Hazard Points

  • Low visibility at night, prone to causing injuries.
  • During patrol after a power grid strike, incorrect power transmission may easily lead to electric shock to personnel.
  • Uneven patrol path covers, risk of slipping and falling into empty spaces, resulting in contusions and sprains.

Control Measures

  • Use lighting batteries with qualified illuminance, and have two people conduct patrol simultaneously, looking out for each other.
  • Before patrolling and inspecting after a power grid strike, hang a "No Closing, Personnel Working" sign on the operating handle of the power isolation switch, or have a dedicated person guard it to prevent incorrect power transmission.
  • Carefully inspect. The covers should be flat and without movement to ensure walking safety during night patrols.

Hot Weather

Hazard Points

  • The oil level of oil - filled equipment rises, and the internal pressure increases, causing oil spraying and serious oil leakage.
  • Abnormal oil pressure of the hydraulic mechanism, and the circuit breaker cannot operate safely and reliably.

 Control Measures

  • Monitor the change of the oil level. If necessary, request to stop the power and adjust the oil level.
  • Monitor that the pressure does not exceed the limit pressure. Manually release the pressure completely, and establish a dedicated record for monitoring and analysis.

Flood Season

Hazard Points

There is accumulated water on the site operating platform and patrol path, threatening the safety of operators.

Control Measures

  • Do a good job in pavement drainage, dredge the drainage pipes, and prepare flood - discharge water pumps to ensure they are available at any time.
  • Promptly remove the accumulated water on the operating platform. When contacting the equipment, you must wear insulating boots and insulating gloves.

System Grounding

Hazard Points

  • Resonance caused by grounding faults is likely to cause PT explosion.
  • Step voltage and contact voltage generated at the grounding point may injure people.

Control Measures

  • When inspecting the equipment in the station, wear a safety helmet well to prevent injury from explosion fragments. At the same time, stay away from PT.
  • During patrol, wear insulating boots and insulating gloves, and keep a distance of more than 8m from the grounding point.

CT Open - Circuit

Hazard Points

CT explosion injures people.

Control Measures

  • Wear insulating boots, safety helmets, and insulating gloves.
  • Handle it with people simultaneously.

Unusual Sound of Oil - Filled Equipment

Hazard Points

  • Equipment explosion injures people.
  • Splashed oil catches fire and injures people.

Control Measures

Wear a safety helmet well during patrol, and it should be carried out by 2 people simultaneously.

Why Do Substations Use Stones, Gravel, Pebbles, and Crushed Rock?
Why Do Substations Use Stones, Gravel, Pebbles, and Crushed Rock?In substations, equipment such as power and distribution transformers, transmission lines, voltage transformers, current transformers, and disconnect switches all require grounding. Beyond grounding, we will now explore in depth why gravel and crushed stone are commonly used in substations. Though they appear ordinary, these stones play a critical safety and functional role.In substation grounding design—especially when multiple gr

1.Definition and Function1.1 Role of the Generator Circuit BreakerThe Generator Circuit Breaker (GCB) is a controllable disconnect point located between the generator and the step-up transformer, serving as an interface between the generator and the power grid. Its primary functions include isolating generator-side faults and enabling operational control during generator synchronization and grid connection. The operating principle of a GCB is not significantly different from that of a standard c
