What is the thermal effect of electric current?

Definition of thermal effect of current

When the current passes through the resistance, the current does work and consumes electrical energy, generating heat.

Calculation formula

Q=I^2 Rt

  • I - The current passing through A conductor in amperes (A);

  • R -- the resistance of the conductor, in ohms (Ω);

  • t -- the time for the current to pass through the conductor, in seconds (s);

  • Q - The heat generated by the current on the resistance, in joules (J)

Apply

  • Incandescent lamp

  • Electric cooker

  • Electric iron
