What is a wind load switch?

A wind power load switch is a specialized switching device used in wind power generation systems. It is primarily used to control and protect the connection lines between wind turbines and the power grid. The switch can connect and disconnect a certain load current under normal conditions and can promptly cut off the circuit when faults such as overloads or short circuits occur, thereby protecting the wind power generation equipment and the power grid.

Operating Principle:

When the wind turbine is generating electricity normally and supplying power to the grid, the wind power load switch is in the closed position, allowing current to flow through the contact system between the generator and the grid. When maintenance or inspection of the wind turbine is required, or when a fault occurs in the grid (such as an overload or short circuit), the operating mechanism drives the contacts apart. At this point, the arc extinguishing system activates, quickly quenching the arc generated by the separation of the contacts, thus interrupting the circuit and providing protection for the electrical system. Once the fault is resolved, the wind power load switch can be reclosed to re-establish the connection between the wind turbine and the grid.
